The pole does come in three pieces, and one piece can be left out if you desire a shorter height in outdoor lighting.

Instructions for the Solar Walkway Lights:  

• Remove all parts from the product box
• Do not put pressure on the solar panels
• Turn ON the operation switch by choosing High or Low
  
• Place in sunny location to receive optimum charging

Solar powered walkway lights are so easy to install. Choose a sunny location that will be proper for good lighting of the surrounding area at night. Place the metal solar walkway light exactly where you want it, and use the included ground stake to easily and safely secure it into the ground. If the ground is dry, wet the area and allow the water to soak in a bit, then try the installation again.

Maintenance: 

• After around 5 years, when the batteries need to be replaced, use only high quality Gama Sonic Li-Ion, 3.2V 1500mAh batteries to obtain the same high quality performance as new, one battery required per light fixture
• Turn solar lights for walkway to OFF prior to replacing batteries
• Do not dispose of Lithium-Ion batteries in regular trash - Recycle per city, state and federal regulations
• Clean the solar panel regularly with a damp cloth for optimum charging performance
